This report counts recognizable skill terms in the structured titles and tags of active engineering listings, then turns those signals into a portfolio and search strategy without claiming that missing metadata means a skill is not required.

Visible engineering skill signals
Scanned 937 active engineering, infrastructure, QA, mobile, and technical-generalist listings. Counts use titles and tags only, so they undercount skills mentioned exclusively in descriptions.

What is actually counted
The live panel scans normalized job titles and structured tags for a defined vocabulary of languages, frameworks, cloud platforms, and infrastructure terms. It counts a posting once per skill even if the term appears more than once. This makes the result reproducible and avoids weighting keyword-heavy titles more strongly.
The analysis deliberately does not claim to cover every requirement in the full description. Applicant-tracking feeds expose metadata inconsistently, and many employers keep technology details only in prose. A zero means no visible title/tag mention in this sample, not zero market demand.
Frequency is not the same as importance
Broad platform terms can appear more often because they span many teams, while a specialized language may be essential in a smaller set of well-matched roles. Employers also omit foundational skills—Git, testing, SQL, communication—when they assume qualified candidates already have them. Counts are best used to expand search vocabulary and choose evidence for a portfolio.
The signal is strongest when a term aligns with a category. Kubernetes in infrastructure listings means something different from a passing Kubernetes tag on a product role. Open the linked category pages, apply title search, and read original descriptions before deciding that a skill deserves months of study.
Turn terms into proof of ability
A resume keyword is weak evidence by itself. For the two or three tools closest to your target role, show a concrete artifact: a deployed service, performance investigation, test suite, migration plan, architecture note, or incident review. Explain the constraint, your decision, and the observable result.
Remote teams evaluate how candidates communicate as well as what they build. A short README that lets another engineer reproduce the project, a clear trade-off log, and concise issue history demonstrate async collaboration better than a long list of technologies with no context.
- Choose a target role family before choosing tools to learn.
- Build one end-to-end artifact instead of several tutorial clones.
- Document tests, operations, and failure modes—not only the happy path.
- Mirror employer vocabulary truthfully in titles and project summaries.
Use adjacent skills to widen a search
Tool clusters often reveal adjacent roles. Terraform, Kubernetes, and observability can connect backend experience to platform work. TypeScript, accessibility, and component systems can connect frontend engineering to design systems. Python, SQL, and experimentation can bridge application development and data roles.
Widening does not mean applying indiscriminately. Build two or three saved searches around plausible intersections, then measure which produce roles whose essential responsibilities you can already demonstrate. The monthly report provides the supply context for deciding how broad those searches should be.
Limitations and update discipline
The vocabulary is curated and cannot capture synonyms, versions, proprietary tools, or implied experience. Tags may be employer-authored, ATS-generated, or normalized by the site. The counts also change as openings close and new roles arrive.
For those reasons, the live panel is dated and the method is visible. It should generate hypotheses—such as adding a cloud term to a search—not declarations that a technology is universally required. Verify important decisions across original listings in the relevant category.
